Class Descriptions

Lotus7 Yoga & Pilates offers a variety of Yoga and Mat Pilates classes for people of all ages and stages of life, from the beginner to the more experienced yoga practitioner. All of our classes are alignment and anatomy based with a focus on clear, accessible instructions and precise, hands-on adjustments; not only allowing students to continually go deeper into postures but helping students gain the utmost benefit from their practices. Additionally, our classes are designed to promote physical and mental well-being in a friendly, non-competitive environment.

Hatha Yoga is the traditional type of yoga using asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing) to develop accurate alignment, core strength, flexibility, balance, concentration and breath control. We teach the following methods of Hatha Yoga:

Gentle and Restorative Yoga: A relaxing class designed for rejuvenation and treating fatigue, and also an excellent choice for seniors with limited mobility, perinatal mothers, students suffering from chronic illness or injuries, or those newer to yoga. Class begins with a few minutes of gentle movements and stretching to ease restlessness in the mind and prepare the body for relaxation. Restorative postures, soothing and well-supported by blankets, blocks, or other props follow, held for several minutes at a time, allowing for chronic tension to be released.

Gentle Flow with Meditation: Beginning with gentle movements and stretching to ease restlessness in the mind, the class will end with 15 minutes of guided meditation, where students learn and practice effective breathing and visualization techniques used to quiet the mind. This class is designed to promote confidence, empowerment and trust within oneself. Appropriate for all levels.

Guided Meditation with Breathwork: Students learn and practice a variety of breathing (pranayama) exercises followed by a guided visualization sequence. Breathwork exercise balances the nervous system, increases energy and focus, and calms the mind. Guided meditation relaxes the body, relieves stress and boosts the immune system. You will leave this class feeling serene and revitalized. Appropriate for all levels.

Yoga Stretch: Develops and strengthens your body's core center while improving your coordination, mental clarity, balance and flexibility. Gentle stretches using blankets, blocks and straps help to open, stretch and detoxify, supporting the body through postures. Instructors are well versed in modifications that make this breath centered practice accessible to all levels/abilities. Appropriate for all levels.

Yoga Fundamentals: An Iyengar-based yoga practice, this class concentrates on precise body alignment in the basic postures, working with blocks, blankets, straps, chairs, and the wall, as well as the fundamentals of breath awareness and pranayama. Poses are held longer than in most other yoga forms, and the emphasis is on deepening your awareness within the postures and building the strength and flexibility necessary to perform the basic postures. Appropriate for students interested in learning the essence and structure of poses; beneficial for experienced students looking to refine and improve their understanding of the poses and to take their practice deeper.

All Levels Flow: A yoga class for all levels of experience, consisting of a flowing sequence at a gentle pace synchronized with breathing techniques, designed to build strength, flexibility, balance and coordination, while gaining a peaceful state of mind.

Slow Flow: Classes begin with gentle stretches and some slow, flowing sun salutations, working up to standing and balancing poses, as well as core work to strengthen your body, increase your stamina and flexibility, while still providing thorough instruction. Each class will end with restorative poses to help relax and rejuvenate your body, mind and spirit. Ideal for transitioning from beginning to intermediate level of practice, students will be exposed to a stronger flow sequence and begin learning more advanced poses.

Vinyasa Flow: Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement”. Classes involve moving gracefully through a continual flow of poses synchronized with breathing techniques. The smooth, continuous flow deepens breathing, increases endurance, and will test the edge of your balance and flexibility. Suitable for Advanced Beginners or Intermediate students who have an understanding of basic postures and are ready to deepen their practice.

Vinyasa Flow (2): A fun, fast-paced class for those ready to break a sweat! Using a dynamic and vigorous sequence of poses which link breath with movement, and are designed to build strength, flexibility and increase stamina and focus. Suitable for Advanced Beginners or Intermediate students who have an understanding of basic postures and are ready to deepen their practice.

Classic Mat Pilates: Joseph Pilates’ original floor exercise method of total body conditioning. Instructors focus on core strengthening techniques to improve overall posture, alignment and flexibility, along with articulation of movement, neck and back muscle relaxation, pelvic floor control and breath patterns. This class is for all levels of ability, and is a perfect complement to cardiovascular exercises, athletes and general rehabilitation, without building bulk or stressing joints. Pilates is also recommended as pre- & post-partum programs, helping build the abdominal muscles connection.
